Also known as ‘Botox’. Botox is the brand name of the drug Botulinum Toxin Type A and Botox is probably the best-known brand there is. Other brands include Azzalure and Bocouture, but we choose Botox as our brand of choice at Skin Story Aesthetics. It is a prescribed medication so requires a full consultation with a prescribing practitioner.
How does Botox work?
Botox is injected into the muscle we want to treat using a very fine needle. The toxin stops the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine which prevents the message from the nerve cells to reach the muscle fibres, therefore preventing the muscles to contract which would cause lines and wrinkles. As the toxin wears off, movement returns.
